This is My Community - Jonah Pence

When springtime makes its grand appearance, there’s a good chance you’ll find Jonah Pence on the ball field. A youth sports coach for 7 years now, he and his family love the game and the life lessons that can be learned through sports like softball and baseball.

“I love team sports and the concepts they teach to youth to help prepare for life. What I enjoy most about softball and baseball is seeing the confidence the sport brings out in the kids I coach.”

Jonah’s involvement in coaching is just one area in which he gives back to the community he calls home. Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, his roots run deep – all the way back to 1856 when his family took ownership of a farm in the Cross Keys area. Jonah and his wife, Fern, built a home on the farm in 2005 where they currently reside.

“The people and way of life in the Shenandoah Valley draws you in. While we’ve seen Harrisonburg and Rockingham County grow a lot over the years, it still is a close-knit community. I’ve lived here my entire life and wouldn’t consider being anywhere else.”

This passion for community has led Jonah to various volunteerism roles throughout his career. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance and has previously served on the board for the United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Shenandoah Valley Builder’s Association, and Rockingham County Little League. Jonah, Fern, and their four children are also involved with Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Coaching both on and off the field, Jonah currently manages the Virginia Region for PCB and leads the Commercial Team. He is responsible for driving loans and deposits in the market as well.

“I’ve been in banking since 2005 and have primarily worked on the lending side of finance. What I love most about my job is working with people – helping my customers meet their financial objectives and creating lasting relationships. I really enjoy our team at PCB and how community driven the organization is. I’m encouraged to get out of the office to support my community and make it the best place it can be.”
